[L-USA] lusa in Dartmoor?

From: Linda Aplin (linda@auc.com) | Date: 1999-02-24 14:40:01 UTC-08:00
Reply to: lusa in Dartmoor?
What if the USA letterbox group places an official annual letterbox in Dartmoor via Adrian. We could officially stamp our way into letterbox history.

For a first stamp, I envision a map of the USA, dated 1998. If Adrian would be kind enough to place it for us, we could, indeed, be part of the international letterbox group. And, if any of us get over to Dartmoor, it would be a wonderful box to search out.

Any thoughts?

Linda,
This is a FANTASTIC idea!!!
Are you up for it, Adrian?

Since Susan Davis carved the first American letterbox
stamp, I would like to nominate her to be the carver
of this one, as well. (Assuming she is willing)

We could include a little synopsis of the formation
of our group in the guest book of the letterbox.

I second the nomination for Susan, the mother of LB/USA

Susan,
I think you should hop the pond and personally place the box!?!

When I was thinking about images I was thinking it should clearly reflect who we are (hence the map of the US) since most letterboxers in the UK probably aren't aware of our group. Perhaps it could represent a landmark instead? But I think it should be a visual introduction to who we are and what we are doing in the states. And I strongly feel it should be dated, since 1998 is the year this organization began.

And if a box is placed every year, we could elaborate on the theme (different landmarks? different states?). We will quickly have a history of boxes hidden in Dartmoor.
It'll be interesting to see what the group comes up with. I look forward to the discussion.

Linda

Hi guys!

Thanks for the encouragement. I will be happy to carve a stamp for
Adrian's box AFTER we all get some time to make suggestions for
content. I like Linda's concept and would hope that others might have
some imagery to contribute - then we'll see what the knife leaves
behind. This group is so great.

You might be amused to know that my Grandad is from England,
Warwickshire (northerly) but an elderly cousin still lives there. Not a
letterboxer, but I think he should get with the program!

Again, let's get some brainstorming on this image.

Best regards,
Susan
